Helps identify techniques to successfully implement change.  Techniques to help plan and execute change in a five step model are presented and applied to the participant's situation.  Suggestions are given to anticipate, identify and overcome resistance to change in yourself and others.

DELEGATION
(1 day)

Helps identify appropriate tasks to be done by others, methods of selecting the right person for the job while remaining in control.  Learn appropriate models to develop others, rather than delegate by dumping undesirable tasks.  Use a secretary effectively and make the best use of clerical support personnel.

LEADERSHIP STYLE
(1 day)

Leadership style helps you judge the effectiveness of your current style. Identify how to improve your effectiveness by expanding your style in light of : 1.) the competence of the subordinate and 2.) the subordinate's commitment to the current situation. Styles explored include directing, coaching, supporting, and delegating as approaches to leadership. Learn how to model skills you want to develop in others. 

PROGRESSIVE DISCIPLINE

Identify techniques to change employee behavior that negatively impact performance.  Appropriate discipline and counseling techniques and terminations are covered.  Learn why employees don't perform well, how to set standards, follow-up and avoid a negative impact while correcting errors.

PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL AND GOAL SETTING
(1 day)

Helps use current tools/forms correctly to fairly measure past performance and set common goals to improve employee performance.  Parts of the form, how to observe and rate another's performance objectively are stressed.  How to conduct the appraisal interview and write a developmental plan accepted by you and the subordinate.  Avoid obstacles to goals.

SELECTION INTERVIEWING
(1 day)

Demonstrates how to select the best person for the job.  Screen applications, questioning techniques and interviewing skills are covered.  Assessing strengths and weaknesses and questioning techniques to develop information are stressed.  Avoid illegal questions.

TRAINING SUBORDINATES
(1 day)

Helps develop on-the-job training techniques to improve employee performance.  Uses the 4 step method of instruction (plan, present, try-out performance and follow-up evaluation).  Identify the strengths and weaknesses of your style by teaching a sample lesson.  Identify what helps others learn. Apply adult learning concepts in a non-threatening manner.

SURVIVAL SKILLS FOR THE NEW SUPERVISOR
(1 day)

Helps the new supervisor adopt the appropriate perspective.  Build confidence by redefining your role, analyze your communication style, handle issues in an assertive, not aggressive manner.  Handle manipulative employees successfully and identify new stressors and how to deal with them successfully.

MOTIVATING PEAK PERFORMERS
(1 day)

Identifies characteristics of outstanding performers and techniques to continue to get the best results from these employees.  How to assign work and reward this highly motivated person is included.

COPING WITH CHANGES IN A TEAM ENVIRONMENT
(1 day)

Helps identify how to handle change and still maintain team work.
